Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEA)

Strategic environmental assessment (SEA) is an environmental systematic decision support process with the aim of ensuring that environmental aspects are effectively considered in the development of strategic actions, policies, plans and programmes. The SEA’s differ from the EIA’s as they look at policies, ideas, plan and programmes compared to physical projects that EIA’s are concerned with. This makes SEA’s an important tool where it helps decision-makers/ planners comprehend the various scenarios which may occur from consequences of different actions and their short, medium and long term environmental impacts.
